Advisory Assignments

Through its advisory expertise, Translink will:

  • Identify the most appropriate approach to use in the appraisal process
  • Analyze the business based upon financials, assets, multiples and comparable transactions
  • Provide an assessment as to the value of the company based upon the analysis and the advisors judgment

Advising its clients, Translink helps them to evaluate the fair market value of the transaction, avoiding the risk of overpaying when they are buyers and being underpaid when they are sellers. Translink’s advisory methodology very often produces business improvements, uncovering areas that if addressed would enhance the total value of the company. Understanding the market value of the business tends also to diminish uncertainties during negotiations and to expedite the entire process.

Fairness Opinions

In addition to advising on transactions, as an independent third party Translink also issues fairness opinions to reassure board of directors, general partners, trustees and shareholders. A fairness opinion is a financial advisor's determination that the terms in a merger, acquisition, divestiture, securities issuance or other transaction are fair from a financial point of view.

A fairness opinion may be rendered on behalf of a company, its shareholders or a limited group of shareholders (i.e. public shareholders or non-controlling shareholders).

Given the high level of complexity of today's financing, restructuring and recapitalization transactions, there are often conflicts between parties involved. To reduce the risks of litigation and to ensure transaction fairness, it is essential to obtain an independent fairness opinion from a competent, credible and proven firm.

Translink has issued and contested numerous high profile fairness opinions throughout its more than thirty years of experience.
